Virtual Consultations
Virtual consultations may be offered when families wish to obtain a preliminary assessment, discussion about treatment, and a rough cost estimate before scheduling an appointment.
For patients wishing to have treatment completed awake or with minimal sedation, they will NOT be eligible for a virtual consultation and should be seen in person at the clinic first to allow for assessment of patient anxiety, behaviour and allow for patient interaction.
Virtual consultations do not replace a comprehensive in-person dental examination and are intended for informational and planning purposes only.
Required Records
In order for a dentist to provide a meaningful virtual consultation, the clinic must receive adequate diagnostic information in advance.
Virtual consultations can only be provided when the following records are available:
- Recent dental X-rays
- Clear photographs showing (turn flash on):
- Upper arch back teeth
- Lower arch back teeth
- Upper front teeth
- Lower front teeth
If these records are not available or are of insufficient quality, the clinic may recommend an in-person consultation instead.
Fee and Billing
The fee for a virtual consultation is:
| Billing Code | 08011 |
| Fee | $96 |
Important billing information:
- The virtual consultation fee is payable at the time of booking or prior to the appointment.
- Insurance coverage for this service is unknown and may vary by plan.
- Families should expect that this fee may need to be paid out of pocket.
- If requested, the clinic can submit or check insurance coverage to determine whether this code may be reimbursed by their insurance plan.
Credit Toward Examination
If families decide to proceed with treatment at Saskatoon Pediatric Dentistry:
- The $96 virtual consultation fee will be credited toward the examination fee performed at the clinic.
This ensures families are not paying twice for consultation and assessment.
Nature and Limitations of Virtual Consultations
Families should understand that:
- Virtual consultations provide preliminary guidance only.
- Treatment plans and cost estimates are based solely on the information provided.
- Final diagnosis, treatment recommendations, and fees may change after an in-person examination and updated diagnostic records.
Scheduling
Virtual consultations are scheduled:
- At designated times when a dentist is available to provide these assessments.
Appointments are conducted through the clinic’s approved virtual communication platform.
Clinic Discretion
The clinic reserves the right to:
- Recommend an in-person consultation instead of a virtual consultation if the case appears complex or if sufficient diagnostic information is not available.
- Decline virtual consultations when adequate assessment cannot be performed remotely.
Please Note: Virtual consultations are provided for informational and planning purposes only and do not replace a full in-person dental assessment.
