Information on Diet Counselling
Appropriate nutrition plays a major role in good dental health. A child’s nutrition impacts the development of their teeth, their resistance to many oral conditions, periodontal diseases and oral cancer. Many snacks that children eat can lead to the formation of cavities. Avoid sticky, sweet treats and limit the frequency of snacking to 2 snacks a day. Children should finish their snack or meal within 15-20 minutes and rinse with water after. For snacks, choose low carb nutritious foods such as vegetables, low-sugar yogurt and cheese, nuts. The frequency of eating is important as we know that kids who eat very frequently (the grazers) are higher risk for cavities between their teeth.
